Application for registration as a Debt Settlement Services Provider
under the California Consumer Financial Protection Law (CCFPL) is
currently pending with the California Department of Financial
Protection and Innovation (DFPI). xDebt is not yet authorized
to provide debt-settlement services in California or any other
jurisdiction. Interested consumers may join our wait-list; we will
reach out once licensure is issued. No fees are collected
prior to license issuance and the rendering of services.
Debt Settlement Is Not For Everyone
Debt-settlement programs typically require participants to stop making
payments to creditors, which may negatively impact credit scores, result
in creditor collection activity (including phone calls and lawsuits), and
could result in additional debt due to late fees, accrued interest, and
other charges. Debt forgiven in a settlement may be treated as taxable
income by the IRS and reported on Form 1099-C. Results vary; not all
debts can be settled. xDebt does not provide tax, legal, or accounting
advice.
